Q: My freight cost are being quoted as a percentage of the total purchase price. Is that ok? What % should it be?
A: Anytime freight is quoted as a percentatge of the total purchase price, a red flag should be waived. That concept has no relationship to how freight pricing is determined and normally means you are paying an excessive amount for the freight portion of your purchase.
Q: I noticed that with Higher Dollar Commodities that my freight price seem to increase significantly. Is that how freight is determined?
A: Inflated freight costs associated with Higher Value or Dollar commodities should also send up a red flag. Though fragility of an item plays a role in determining costs, inflated pricing for higher value items is another indicator you are paying way too much for the freight portion of your purchase.
